A Christmas update from Debbie Mason-Smith

Club Person of the Year 2022
Dan Wakefield was awarded the title of Club Person of the Year 2022. For those of you who do not know him, he is a cricketer and a hockey player and is also captain of the cricket 2 nd team, is cricket section secretary and in the past has organised the Sunday league cricket team too.
He was a weekly volunteer at the Neston All Sports Stars Academy on Friday evenings after finishing work. When the ECB chose The Neston Club (TNC) as hosts for National cricket finals this year, Dan was one of the first members on site to help out and to welcome the officials and players. Beyond this he helped run the fortnightly quizzes this Autumn and played the piano at the Christmas Festive Lunch and at the Christmas Lunch for the Thursday Group last week too. He also baked for the fund raising Summer Afternoon Tea that Jo Thorne organizes each year. In summary, Dan is an all rounder and huge contributor to TNC. The perfect member to receive this Award. Thank you Dan for all you do on and off the pitch – it is massively appreciated.
Astro Tennis Courts
Both Management, Tennis Committee and Members have been frustrated at the time it’s taken to replace the lights on the TOP Astro courts. Thankfully, after a lot of persistence, this has been resolved.
We are now awaiting the decision of the Planning Office as to the addition of lights on the LOWER Astro courts. We’ve been told that a decision might be received as late as Spring because of the back log of workload in the Planning Office and will keep you informed of progress.
The Summer Marque week was a sell-out, it raises so much money for TNC and we are grateful for the sponsorship we received both then and throughout the year.
We have been offering complimentary tea and coffee daily in the downstairs Tea Room. Just a few have taken up this offer, however, we will continue this in the New Year
Elin Harlow (far right in photo below) joined us from St Asaph Squash Club. She has since been selected to play for Wales in the WSF Ladies World Team Championship in Egypt next Autumn. She will be playing some of the best players in the world and it is a real honour to be representing her country. We all wish her luck and are very proud of her success.
We wish Jenny Woolley a speedy recovery after her fall and hope she is back on her feet as soon as possible.
A huge thank you to all the members who volunteer to help in so many ways at our Club. We appreciate your support so much.
Also to the Craig, the House Staff and Ground Staff for all their hard work throughout the year.
All that is left for me to say is Best Wishes for a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
