Geoff Poole - In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we have to share the news of the passing of Geoff T Poole, one of the founding members of the hockey section here at Neston.
Geoff was a past President of The Neston Club (1988-1993) and Captain of Neston 1st Team Hockey (1977-1980). He helped set up the Neston Hockey section in 1963 with the likes of David Jellicoe, Peter Cross, Peter Constable and others.
He and his wife Judy were regulars at The Neston Club and their daughters Tania and Emma played at Neston, the later playing for U18 England Hockey.
He was responsible for the setting up of Junior Hockey at Neston and was the catalyst for setting up Beavers and Badgers in the North West. He played 8 times for Great Britain and was Vice Captain of the Australia tour in 1966. He played for Wales 31 times and Captained the Welsh side.
He was Captain of Neston Hockey at our inaugural winning of the Cheshire Cup in 1972. He was part of the team that got to the Final of the H.A. Cup in 1979 and was then part of the coaching staff that helped win the H.A. Cup in 1983 and beyond was helping during Neston’s meteoric rise in the inaugural Hockey National League of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
Geoff's funeral will be taking place on Monday 27th November 2023 at 12:00 at St Michael's and All Angels CofE Church (CH48 6EP) followed by a wake here at The Neston Club.
