An update from Debbie Mason-Smith
Hi Members,
Well, Christmas is now a month past and we’re almost at the end of January, which we often dread. But, in fact, we have seen wonderful pink sunrises and red sunsets which have emblazoned the skies over Wirral - making this long month very bearable.
Hockey league matches are well underway, wrap up warm and come down and support them on a Saturday. I’m very pleased to announce that Priya Kerfoot has been selected for the U16 England Squad.
The squash courts have been sanded and cleaned by Courtcare Ltd and are playing very well, almost like new, which is incredible to think that they were built in the 1970s. Why don’t you try a game or even racketball?
Tennis courts are busy and our Club coaches are doing a remarkable job in all weathers. I’m looking forward to hearing about our young members who are doing well in National Tournaments.
Cricket is already preparing for the new season in booking indoor net sessions at Wirral Grammar School and our Ladies Team played their first indoor league game of the season two weeks ago.
During the colder months, Thursday Club meet every Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon downstairs for table tennis, games and a chat over tea and coffee. They have a trip organised to visit The Royal Liverpool Golf Club on 10th February for an animated tour of the club by Jo Pinnington (historian and our club member for many years). Tea and sandwiches will be taken afterwards and if you would like to go please contact Pam Garner (peter.garner@talk21.com). This is currently just open to members as numbers are expected to be high.
You may notice that the frontage of the Clubhouse has had a clean lick of paint. Jackson Painting & Decorating did a great job despite a hiccough with an unexpected rainstorm!
Tom & Neil continue to provide delicious food for us and the Sunday lunch I had last week was really very good and I thoroughly recommend it. Just £20 for 3 courses and £17 for 2 courses. The next dates are 27th February and 27th March (Mothering Sunday). Book ahead to avoid disappointment. Children are very welcome and we also have high chairs.
Sadly, I mention the passing of members Mary Schofield, Terry Bates, Stuart Clayton and Dave Berstock. All of whom made a considerable contribution in different ways to The Club over past years. My condolences go to their families.
Lastly, we give a warm welcome to our new Events Manager, Courtney Roberts who has joined us from her previous position of Events Manager at Kings School Chester, and to Alex Winstone, Bar Manager who joins us from Leaf in West Kirby. They both bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their posts and we look forward to seeing them around. Bye to Izzy Jones and Annie Mills who did a marvellous job filling in until these posts were taken up permanently, and for bringing lots of fun and laughter to The Club.
So that I don’t miss anything out in next month’s newsletter, please drop me an email sharing any news you would like me to include.
Best wishes All
Deb
