Time to prepare for Marquee Week!

All the happenings at the club and exciting news about things coming up.

We have had very blustery conditions in May but our courts and pitches are still busy with juniors and seniors taking advantage of our wonderful facilities.

Surprisingly there have been no Saturday cricket matches called off but the Sunday team has not been so lucky.

It’s been wonderful having the chefs working out of their 'mobile street food kitchen' on the front, catering for members and guests – the feedback on pizzas and burgers has been excellent. The Sunday morning breakfasts have also been a hit.

The Club made an appointment to the newly created and much needed role of Sports Development Officer. Emma Nokes proved the most suitable candidate and comes with a wealth of experience, latterly coaching at Birkenhead School She has stepped into this role with ease, working closely with our other sports coaches and also connecting with the local junior & secondary schools. Emma is based at the club and can often be found in the office with Kat or on any one of the sporting facilities around the site. Emma will be a major asset to Neston.

Andrew Evans has had great success in running the Ladies Racketball session on Monday evenings and Dave Collyer is keeping busy in the Cricket Section, involved in all aspects including the Ladies Cricketers who are winning every match to date with ease.

U8 Tennis

Here is a photo of the U8 Tennis Team coached by Chris White. The junior section has had great results at a very high level. Chris opened the grass courts to an LTA Open Day with over 180 young children attending for a taster session. All Sports Stars continues on a Friday evening - It’s not just sport but social too and I think the parents enjoy it as much as the children.

The hockey summer league is up and running with teams of ladies, men and a mixed team - and Emma is also busy planning the hockey summer festival.

The team at the Club are busy preparing for the Marquee Weekend next month. It’s been a nightmare getting staff in the hospitality industry, and we haven’t avoided this but fortunately exams are soon to finish and our university lads and lasses will be home to replenish their funds and put in some solid hours behind the bar. You might think that having held the marquee for decades now that it runs like clockwork, however, Craig has brought new ambition to this event and we will often be thrown a curveball to challenge us. Bookings for the 8th Annual Parkgate Proms are on sale, which is again being held on the Sunday of marquee from 1pm – tickets on sale from the office or phone 0151 336 4199.

I urge you to book to avoid disappointment. Remember you bring your own picnic and enjoy with friends whilst listening to the delights of the 32 piece Orchestra dell’ Arte. It is such a wonderful event for all the family.

Thursday Club had a great outing to Llandudno, being blessed with a scorcher of a day. A reminder that table tennis is played on Tuesday mornings and summer sports, including bowls, boule, croquet and mölkky (a game from Scandinavia) on a Thursday afternoon. You’ll be warmly welcomed and offered a cuppa by our special group of retirees.

Lastly I have sad news, the sudden passing of Alma Smith who was a long standing member prior to retiring to France with her husband Cliff. Also the sad passing of Keith Smith, my father in law, who had enjoyed many games of table tennis and bowls with Thursday Group, and was regularly seen watching his grandson play cricket.

I hope you all have a wonderful Summer month.

Best wishes, DEB
