An update from Debbie Mason-Smith
You will have noticed that the Members’ Entrance, staircase and Squash corridor has been given a fresh coat of paint and soon the flooring will be replaced. Along with the new doors and the landing window into the Members Bar, it’s all looking very good. The newly appointed office staff are settling in well and all working together as the Club gets busier with private bookings and club events.
Past President, Bunta Evans, came along to Thursday Group this week for their charity event. She talked about her narrow escape with the sinking sands at Thurstaston, which was aired on the BBCs - Saving Lives at Sea and another real life example of a young woman rescued in the roughest of seas in Trearddur Bay, putting all the lives of the lifeboat staff at risk. It was a harrowing account of the volunteering work they do and there were many wet eyes in the room. A representative of the RNLI received the charity donation on that afternoon. Jenny Woolley presented a very delicious lunch which was much enjoyed and Pam Garner and Barbara Lewis made the floral table centres which were later sold and the contribution went towards the £1200 total.
Due to suffering with covid I had to miss the Cheltenham Gold Cup Event held by the Cricket Section. It was a great fundraiser and, I hear, was wonderful fun. The men’s Hockey 2nd Team won the League last Saturday and celebrated in style at the Annual End of Season Dinner on Saturday. The Australian Overseas Cricket Player, Rowan Shenton, arrived on Wednesday. I hope everyone will go out of their way to say hello and make him feel very welcome.
Yoga for men and women and older members stared this week and the feedback has been excellent. Register with the office if you would like to join in, there are still spaces available. Neston All Sports Stars for children aged 3-9 years returns in April, and we already have 166 children registered. It’s a slightly different format this year and I’m sure will be even more popular. A big call out for volunteers to help with the tennis coaching please. Speak to the Coach, Chris White, if you can support this.
Chris is also starting up Cardio Tennis for 10-16 year olds on a Tuesday evening 5-5.45pm. This is ideal if your child:
On 23rd April the Tennis Section hold a pre-season BBQ. Come join them and mix in with a game of tennis. Frankie’s Friendlies begin on 14th April. This is a Thursday evening Friendly match for men and women against other Wirral Clubs. It is an opportunity to step into match tennis and have great fun to meet other people.
I was really pleased to read that we are featuring twice in the Neston 2022 Music Festival. The Rhos Male Voice Choir are performing this month and the event is sold out, then on Wednesday 11th May we host Festival Five Jazz Band. Also on Sunday 24th April at 2.30pm our Club Member, Dan Wakefield, is performing an Organ Recital in Neston Parish Church. I have heard him play many times and he is superbly talented, I guarantee you will enjoy it.
On 24th April we also have another Sunday Roast at the Club, this is to celebrate St Georges Day. Book early to avoid disappointment.
For all of the upcoming events I have mentioned, please check the website or contact the Office for further details and to book.
Finally, good luck to Tennis and Cricket as their new season commences.
