President Debbie Mason Smith presents a review of the last year at the club.

We have just completed another Marquee Weekend at The Club, which was a huge success.

Craig, Kat, Nick, Izzy and the rest of the Team did a marvellous job - working a record number of hours - and despite various last minute challenges they came through smiling! A mention to Annie Mills and Dom Smith who put in similar hours setting up and running the bar and to Andrew Mills who worked his usual magic on the lighting and sound. Paul Collingsmith, a member, also provided the London Essence Gin Bar. I was even persuaded to try one myself, it was delicious.

The AGM was held last Tuesday and I have attached the slide presentation. When writing it I was amazed at how much we have achieved in difficult circumstances. The outside bar has been embraced by the members, making them feel very safe, as well as the decking and sturdy new picnic tables. We’ve invested in heaters and high tables on the members side of the balcony and have a new team of chefs in place. Weddings, funerals, christenings etc are filling up the Cranston’s diary once again.

I am so proud of the many members who have volunteered their help to make the success. For example: Dave Collyer who has put in many many hours reintroducing ladies cricket, chairman of junior cricket, leading on All Sports Stars (160 youngsters aged 4-9) and more.

Emma Nokes for running another hockey festival which was even better than last year and also running the Hockey All Sports Star Sessions

Syed Rashid who superbly ran the August Bank Holiday under 11 cricket festival.

Beth Thorne who organised the President’s Young Leaders who help out at the All Sports Stars and gain rewards which they can put towards their DofE award or their personal statement for entry into university.

Jim Marshall and Mark Strong who tirelessly help our brilliant groundsmen Steve and Tom every week.

I can think of so many more examples and am overwhelmed at the feeling of love for the club and the drive shown to ensure it continues to be the finest sporting club in the North West.

All I have left is to let you know that the President’s Dinner will be held on Friday 26th November. Please contact the office for tickets.

Best wishes
