An update from Debbie Mason-Smith

Deb lunch

Hello from Brussels, where I’ve been spending a few days looking after my Grandson.

I was sat in the sunshine drinking coffee in Place du Luxembourg in front of the European Parliament and there were hundreds of people demonstrating with yellow and blue flags flying high. I am sure all our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine who are suffering terribly, what we are seeing of this on the news is unsettling.

Back in Parkgate you may have noticed a few changes… the members entrance doors have been replaced and soon we will have new signage all around the premises and grounds, as well as the squash corridor and staircase having a good overhaul.

Neston All Sports Stars Academy (NASSA) for children aged 3 to 9 years old returns on Friday 22nd April. It was an undisputed success last year, attracting new members and their parents and offering exercise and an opportunity for the children to try different sports with no extra charge. The Club will continue to serve food on a Friday evening.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers and parents who help out and to Dave Collyer who discovered his vocation on the megaphone.

Yoga is starting at The Club from Tuesday 5th April. Ladies and Men’s sessions will be held separately on a Tuesday morning and Seniors Yoga on a Wednesday from 2-3pm. Ellie Collins will be running the sessions. She is a qualified yoga coach and also works with Age UK on yoga tuition.

News from the hockey pitch is that the Ladies 1st have had a good string of success since Christmas in an ongoing attempt to avoid relegation from the National League. I wish them good luck. Check out when they are playing at home and give them all the support on pitch side.

The Thursday Club had a great talk on Joyce Grenfell last month, I had to leave early but the Cranston was filled with laughter, and then the following week we were treated to a grand tour of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. Joe Pinnington (Past Captain and a member at TNC) showed us around, he was very entertaining. This was followed by a delicious afternoon tea in the Dining Room, overlooking the Course. It was a real treat and what a magnificent clubhouse and course it is. Jo Thorne accompanied me, and we gained some great ideas for our Afternoon Tea later in the Summer.

Lastly, I would like to welcome Corina Anglesey who joins the Office Team in an Administrative Role.

For any further details on all that is mentioned above, please access the website www.thenestonclub.co.uk where you will find a raft of information or you could email or call the Club and leave a message with any query and they will get back to you.

Wishing you all the best
Deb
